No. 106 - The Author: Jodie Briggs, at Morning, with Paper. Photography by Emily Fishman.

November 8th, 2019

One of my favorite parts of interviewing Jodie Briggs this past August was hearing about her hometown of Denton, North Carolina. When Emily arrived for portraits and photography after the interview, Briggs brought copies of the Denton Orator for our perusal.

Briggs, who has written in LongReads regarding her father's work and how it has influenced her through the years, shared a copy of The Orator from this past August that featured a story of the family business: "From Humble Beginnings."

Briggs' essay, "Sounds," in which she describes how memories and sounds of her hometown have made their way into her home in Boerum Hill, Brooklyn, appears within Issue No. 7 - Autumn 2019.

We'll read at Housing Works - 126 Crosby Street - on November 14th at 7:00pm, and would love to see you there.

All of our best,
