No. 59 - The view from the Upper East Side - The Cherokee.

September 22nd, 2019

There is a building on the Upper East Side named the Cherokee. From 2013 through 2016, I lived across the street, and in 2017, I was hired to sell an apartment within the building.

I can't think of another building in New York ––– residential, commercial, mixed-use, or otherwise ––– that has captured my imagination in the same way as the Cherokee.

The six-story walk-up located on York Avenue, between 78th and 79th street makes an appearance in Celebrity (1998); and for good reason. Rather than a street, or a hallway, each of the the apartments open up to a quiet and serene courtyard.

In the fall of 2016, as I was entrusted to help an owner in the building sell her apartment, I began working with the real estate photographer, Robert Englebright, who I profiled within Issue No. 1 - Summer 2017.

A few of Englebright's photos of the building appear below.
